Dr. Maurice Watson

Dr. Maurice Watson is a gifted preacher, teacher, shepherd, and author.  Currently, he serves as the Senior Pastor of the Second Baptist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas. He started preaching at the age of sixteen and pastoring at twenty-one.  God has given Dr. Watson a unique ability to explain complex biblical truths with clarity and excellence which informs, challenges, and promotes Christian maturity. Each week his messages are heard by thousands in and beyond the walls of the church where he pastors.

 

As an intuitive visionary, he conveys clear concepts and ideas with strategic directions, while fostering strong lay leadership to support church development, ministry expansion, Christian discipleship, community outreach, and global missions. Dr. Watson has launched and completed construction of new worship centers at various churches he has served.  Moreover, he has successfully led congregations that faced considerable challenges, transitioning them to a level of stability and spiritual healthiness.

 

Dr. Watson earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education at Philander Smith University in Little Rock, Arkansas, a Master of Arts in Theology at Creighton University in Omaha Nebraska, a Doctor of Ministry degree at Beeson Divinity School in Birmingham, Alabama, and a PhD in Leadership at Anderson University in Anderson, South Carolina.

Dr. Watson is a leader / mentor with a heart for next generations, which extends beyond his own church.  He serves on numerous boards and committees.  His publications include “God’s Purpose for My Life” and “Looking Up When Life’s Got You Down:  Trusting God in The Crazy Seasons of Life”.

Dr Watson is married to his wife, Janice, and they are blessed with two daughters, Marcia and Jessica, one son-in-law, Kevin Vandiver, and two grandsons, Ethan and Miles whom they love to spoil.
